The Story of Moulin Rouge
- This Broadway musical was written by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, adapting the story from the 2001 film Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The story transports you to Belle-Époque Paris: you’re in 1899, in the heart of Montmartre’s bohemian quarter.
- Christian, a young composer who’s just arrived in Paris, meets Toulouse-Lautrec and his troupe. Toulouse-Lautrec asks for his help writing the score for a musical commissioned by the Moulin Rouge.
- One thing leads to another, and Toulouse-Lautrec plays matchmaker, introducing Christian to the beautiful Satine, the cabaret’s star. It’s love at first sight! But Toulouse-Lautrec and Christian don’t know one crucial detail: the Moulin Rouge’s owner, Harold Zidler, has promised Satine to the Duke of Monroth, hoping the Duke will save the venue from bankruptcy.
- This show made its Broadway debut on July 25, 2019 and has already become a classic. The show won 10 awards at the Tony Awards ceremony in 2021, including Best Musical!
