The Story of Moulin Rouge
- This Broadway musical was written by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, adapting the 2001 film Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The story transports you to Belle Époque Paris in 1899, to the bohemian heart of Montmartre.
- Christian, a young composer newly arrived in Paris, meets Toulouse-Lautrec and his circle. Toulouse-Lautrec asks for his help writing the score for a musical commissioned by the Moulin Rouge.
- One thing leads to another, and Toulouse-Lautrec plays matchmaker, introducing Christian to the beautiful Satine, the cabaret’s star performer. It’s love at first sight. But neither Toulouse-Lautrec nor Christian knows a crucial detail: the Moulin Rouge’s owner, Harold Zidler, has promised Satine to the Duke of Monroth, hoping the Duke will save the establishment from bankruptcy.
- The show opened on Broadway on July 25, 2019 and has already become a classic. It won 10 awards at the Tony Awards in 2021, including Best Musical.
