The Story of Moulin Rouge
- This Broadway musical was written by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, adapting the story from the film Moulin Rouge, released in 2001 with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The story takes you to Paris during the Belle-Époque: you find yourself in 1899, in the heart of the bohemian neighborhood of Montmartre.
- Christian, a young composer who has just moved to Paris, meets Toulouse-Lautrec and his troupe. Toulouse-Lautrec then asks for his help in writing the score for a musical commissioned by the Moulin Rouge.
- One thing leads to another, and Toulouse-Lautrec also plays matchmaker, allowing Christian to meet the beautiful Satine, the star of the cabaret. It’s love at first sight! But Toulouse-Lautrec and Christian are unaware of one detail: the owner of the Moulin Rouge, Harold Zidler, has promised Satine to the Duke of Monroth, hoping that in exchange the Duke will save the establishment from bankruptcy.
- This show made its Broadway debut on July 25, 2019, and it has already become a classic. The show won 10 awards at the Tony Awards ceremony in 2021, including the title of Best Musical!
