The Story of The Lion King

  • The Lion King takes you to the heart of the African savanna, where you meet Simba, a young lion destined to become the successor of his father, King Mufasa, who rules over the animals of Africa. After his father’s death, the young lion faces the rivalry of his uncle Scar, who seizes power and forces Simba to flee. A long journey filled with dangers begins. As an adult, and strengthened by his experience, Simba decides to reclaim what is rightfully his: his throne!
  • In this musical version, the actors wear costumes representing the animals. Besides Simba, King Mufasa, and Scar, you will meet the lioness Sarabi, the resourceful Rafiki, and Pumba, the warthog who protects Simba. It’s a completely different version, a grand spectacle!
  • Another important piece of information: one of the two authors of the music and lyrics is none other than the famous British singer and composer Elton John. You have certainly already heard or even hummed The Circle of Life, the most famous song from The Lion King.
  • The Lion King was first performed in July 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the success was enormous. A few weeks later, in October 1997, The Lion King arrived on Broadway. Since that date, the show has been running in New York! An incredible longevity: the show will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2027.

Reviews of The Lion King in New York

  • Bérénice F.: “The Lion King is magnificent. From the very beginning, we both shed a tear. Especially at our age, The Lion King is my entire childhood! You forget that these are actors and you dive into the story. Not a sound for almost 2 hours and a standing ovation at the end. A wonderful memory!”
  • Nath Giron: “The Lion King is absolutely superb. The costumes, the sets, it was magical. A splendid musical.”
  • Kévin: “It was just superb! Unforgettable! It exceeds what you can imagine: you have to see it!”
  • Luca: “I saw it twice, in 2015 and in 2020. And it was incredible both times. I’ve seen beautiful shows, beautiful performances, but nothing comparable to this!”
  • Cé-Guignol: “It was grandiose, very good view from any seat. An unforgettable evening.”
  • Bruno: “Breathtaking, hence the price… Absolutely must see.”
  • Maestro D.: “We got chills from the very beginning of the show. We were captivated from start to finish. Without hesitation, go see it. We were able to see the show at Mogador. And we preferred the one in New York. We had less enchantment in Paris.”
  • Maria M.: “The Lion King is just exceptional. The costumes are fabulous. I’ve seen it and seen it again.”
  • Cristel D.: “Magnificent show on all levels. Sets, costumes, and what can we say about the performances.”
