Tips to cope with New York nostalgia

Missing New York after your trip? You're not alone—it's called New-Yorkite! Here are my best tips to ease the longing and keep the Big Apple spirit alive at home.

Tips to cope with New York nostalgia
  • If you’ve just left New York or can’t wait to return, you may have caught New York fever—a condition first identified in 2006 by the New York Forum that leaves you with a real sense of longing for the city.
  • To help you cope with this peculiar New York homesickness, here are some tips for living well with New York fever:

1/ Plan your next trip to New York

  • The best way to fight New York fever is to book your next trip to the city. With that goal in mind, the time away passes much more easily. 🙂 You can leave New York—or wait for your next departure—with positive thoughts about what’s to come. It’s a sure way to overcome New York fever.
  • At home, spend time planning that next visit. Study each neighborhood carefully and make a list of places you haven’t explored yet for your next itinerary. For example, you could map out Brooklyn in detail and plan a trip to Red Hook. Research the Bronx and visit Little Italy in the Bronx. Or explore Queens and discover New York’s largest Chinatown! 2/ Bring New York into your home

  • Missing New York? Transform your apartment or house into a little New York corner by collecting souvenirs, posters, books, and all sorts of New York memorabilia.
  • As you’ll see in the photos below, some members of the Destination New York group have really gone all out! 🙂

3/ Eat New York food year-round

4/ Connect with other New York fans
