Where is Chinatown in Queens?

  • When you visit Manhattan, you’ll likely pass through Chinatown, the famous Chinese neighborhood next to the Financial District and the Manhattan Bridge. It’s worth seeing, but don’t miss New York’s other Chinatown, in Queens.
  • Queens Chinatown is actually New York’s largest Chinatown, home to nearly 240,000 members of the Asian community—more than double the population of Manhattan’s Chinatown.
  • Take the 7 line from Times Square or Grand Central Terminal to Flushing Main Street, the line’s eastern terminus. When you exit the subway, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Asia.

What to see in Queens Chinatown?

  • Queens Chinatown is far more authentic than Manhattan’s. You’ll encounter far fewer tourists here—most stay in Manhattan. There are no souvenir shops or tourist trinkets. This is a neighborhood that lives for its residents.
  • Explore the shops, especially the Chinese pharmacies. You’ll see perfectly arranged rows of herbal decoctions and traditional medicinal preparations. Suddenly you’ll feel transported to Shanghai or Beijing. A journey within a journey!
  • The explanations teach you a lot about the neighborhood’s history and culture, and you’ll discover the three must-see neighborhoods in Queens, including Chinatown.
