I visited for you… Top of the Rock

Why Visit Top of the Rock?

  • Open since 2005, the Top of the Rock observation deck has become one of New York’s most popular attractions, rivaling the iconic Empire State Building. Top of the Rock offers compelling reasons for anyone seeking 360-degree views of New York.
  • The terraces on the 67th through 70th floors of Rockefeller Center offer unobstructed views of the Empire State Building in its entirety. Located in the heart of Midtown, you can also overlook Central Park and the towering buildings along Fifth Avenue.
  • Compared to the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock has a major advantage: space. The terraces span multiple levels, so you won’t feel crowded like you would on the narrow top of the Empire. Better yet, there are no metal grilles here—just large glass panels. Photographers should head to the central platform for extra height and completely unobstructed views.

Tips for Visiting Top of the Rock

  • Arrive early in the morning to avoid long lines. Morning is also the best time for sunlight on the Empire State Building and lower Manhattan. In the distance, you’ll spot the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. In the afternoon, as the sun moves, you’ll get direct light on Central Park and northern Midtown. Don’t miss an evening visit either—New York at night has its own special atmosphere.
  • Top of the Rock is open daily from 8 am to midnight, with the last elevator departing around 11 pm. The entrance is on 50th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenue.
