Best time to visit One World Observatory

Here are my tips for visiting the observatory at the top of One World Trade Center at the best time. You have several options.

Best time to visit One World Observatory

1/ Morning Views

One World Observatory New York

  • One World Trade Center sits at the southern tip of Manhattan. Morning light works best if you want clear views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and New York Harbor, with New Jersey and Staten Island in the distance. For views north toward Manhattan, you’ll be looking into the sun until around noon.
  • Skip the morning visit unless you’ve been to One World Observatory before and specifically want to see the southern views again.

2/ Afternoon Views

One World Observatory New York

  • From 2 pm onward, One World Observatory offers the best views of the day. With the sun over New York Harbor, you’ll see Manhattan in perfect light, including the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building on the horizon. You can also spot TriBeCa, SoHo, Greenwich Village, the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn, Queens, the East River, and the Hudson River.
Afternoon is ideal for your first visit to New York.

3/ Sunset

One World Observatory New York

  • Sunsets in New York are always dramatic from the top of any observation deck—whether it’s Top of the Rock, the Empire State Building, or One World Observatory.
  • One World Observatory offers a unique angle: the sun hits the Midtown skyline directly. You also get beautiful light on New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty—views you can’t get from Top of the Rock or the Empire State Building.
  • To make the most of it, arrive around 4 pm and stay until sunset. You’ll experience the observatory at its best.

4/ Night Views

  • After dark, New York lights up into a spectacular display from One World Observatory’s summit.
  • If this is your first trip to New York, start with daytime views so you can see the city clearly. Then consider a second visit to experience the night views.
