How to pay less for MoMA New York?

UPDATE – June 20, 2025

Free admission for New York residents only

  • For many years, the Museum of Modern Art in New York offered free admission to everyone on Friday evenings from 4 pm to 8 pm. That program has ended.
  • The MoMA now offers free admission only to permanent New York residents on the first Friday of each month, from 4 pm to 8 pm.
  • This program is made possible through sponsorship by Uniqlo, the Japanese clothing brand, which covers the cost of admission—normally $30.

How to visit the MoMA for less

  • The MoMA ranks among the world’s greatest museums. You’ll see major works by Picasso, Warhol, Matisse, Dalí, and Cézanne (see our guide to the Museum of Modern Art). If you love art, this museum belongs on your list.
  • Not a New York resident? Consider a pass. You’ll pay significantly less than the regular admission price. MoMA admission is included in the Explorer Pass, the Pass C3, and the New York Pass.
  • Note: with a pass, you must reserve a time slot for your visit. Instructions come in an email after you purchase your pass on our CNEWYORK site, including through our page for activities and tours in New York.
  • Tip: if you’re paying full price or using a pass, avoid visiting the MoMA on the first Friday of the month between 4 pm and 8 pm. The museum gets crowded with New York residents taking advantage of free admission.
