The Story of Radio City Christmas Spectacular
The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York first premiered in 1933. Since then, this spectacular returns to the stage every year during the holiday season. It’s a wonderful celebration of the American Christmas spirit in 90 minutes.
What’s the show all about? Without spoiling everything, expect to be greeted by Santa himself and discover 14 festive scenes featuring Christmas in New York. The show is led by the Rockettes, a troupe of glamorous dancers famous for their signature high kick. Each performance features 36 dancers on stage! The pace is relentless and the special effects are stunning.
Among the most popular scenes, my personal favorite is the wooden soldiers number. The dancers execute geometric formations before being swept away by a cannon blast—an incredibly technical scene! You’ll also love the amazing effects of the double-decker bus ride through New York. The nativity scene features a real camel on stage. Plus plenty of other surprises, including drone performances.
The show delights audiences of all ages, with nods and references for everyone. Trust me, you won’t notice the 90 minutes fly by. It’s simply magical!
The Radio City Hall itself is worth the visit for its stunning Art Deco style. Its massive stage, over 100 meters wide, is impressive. During the holidays, it’s also the perfect time to enjoy the neighborhood’s festive lights, including the magnificent Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and the nearby ice skating rink.
