Give your children a ride on New York’s most beautiful carousel

Looking for a special New York treat for your kids? Take them for a ride on the city’s most beautiful carousel! At the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, in Brooklyn Bridge Park on the Brooklyn side, you’ll find Jane’s Carousel, an authentic vintage carousel.
This stunning carousel features 48 hand-carved wooden horses and was built in 1922 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, a manufacturer founded in 1904 that still operates today. Originally, Jane’s Carousel was installed in an amusement park in Youngstown, Ohio, in the Great Lakes region.

A modern pavilion by Jean Nouvel

Over time, the carousel fell into disrepair and was eventually auctioned off in poor condition in 1985. Around the same time, plans for Brooklyn Bridge Park were underway, and the idea of incorporating the carousel emerged. After extensive restoration work, Jane’s Carousel was installed in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2011.
To protect this fragile historic carousel, it was placed inside a protective pavilion. This strikingly modern structure was designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel.

Practical Information

Jane’s Carousel operates from 11 am to 6 pm mid-September through mid-May, and until 7 pm mid-May through mid-September. Ticket price: $2. Children 3 and under ride free when accompanied by a paying adult. Enjoy your ride!
