How to rent a bike in New York
You have two options for renting a bike in New York:
1/ Rent a Citi Bike, New York’s bike-sharing system
- The Citi Bike is New York City’s official bike-sharing system. If you’re visiting, you can buy a day pass for $25. This pass gives you 30 minutes of riding time. When you return the bike, you can take another one for another 30 minutes at no extra charge.
- Any additional time beyond 30 minutes costs $0.38 per minute. Keep this in mind if you plan to ride for several hours—the charges add up quickly.
2/ Rent from a bike rental shop
- Your other option is to rent from a specialized bike rental shop by the hour or day. With a fixed rate, there are no surprises. A full-day rental costs around €29, which is much better value than a day with Citi Bike. Plus, the rental includes a helmet, a New York map, and a lock.
