What’s the best time to visit Top of the Rock?
Top of the Rock is a must-see observation deck in New York! Here's when to go to make the most of your visit and capture the best views.

What’s the best time to visit Top of the Rock?
Located in the heart of Midtown at Rockefeller Center, Top of the Rock is an observation deck with stunning views across New York. You’ll see the entire Empire State Building in front of you, Manhattan spread below, and Central Park in the distance. To make the most of your visit, timing matters. Here are the two best times to go:
- Early morning, before 10 am. The sun lights up the Empire State Building and the southern tip of Manhattan perfectly—ideal for photography. After 10 am, the sun moves over the Financial District and the view loses its impact. If you’re an early riser, arrive when the observation deck opens at 8 am. You can exchange your ticket and head straight up before the crowds arrive.
- Sunset. Watching the sun set from Top of the Rock is magical. You’ll see the light turn the glass towers of Manhattan golden before the sun disappears below the horizon. Then the city lights take over. Unforgettable.
