What to Know About Domino Park in New York

  • Domino Park sits on the East River waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The park opened in 2018, making it one of New York’s newest green spaces.
  • The park stretches roughly 400 meters (1,300 ft) along the East River, just steps from the Williamsburg Bridge. It occupies the former site of the Domino Sugar Factory, a sugar refinery built here in 1882. The facility operated continuously until 2004, when its owner, American Sugar Refining, shut down operations in New York.
  • After the factory closed, several architects competed to redesign the site. The New York firm SHoP Architects won the project. The firm is well-known in the city for designing the Barclays Center, the Museum of Sex, and the American Copper Buildings in Midtown.
  • Today, striking glass towers frame the restored historic building, topped with a dramatic glass canopy. Green spaces line the East River waterfront. The park naturally took its name from the Domino Sugar Factory.
