What You Need to Know About RiseNY
- RiseNY opened in March 2022 in New York’s Theater District, just steps from Times Square. The concept is unique: it combines a traditional museum experience with an immersive virtual tour of New York using cutting-edge cinema technology.
- This unconventional museum was created by Running Subway, a New York-based company known for its previous Titanic exhibition. Running Subway’s CEO, James Sanna, came up with the idea while visiting Disneyland in California with his son.
- The museum takes its content seriously: all information is carefully curated, and you’ll leave with a comprehensive understanding of New York’s history and evolution.
What to See During Your RiseNY Visit
- RiseNY has three distinct sections. You’ll start with an immersive film directed by documentarian Ric Burns. Travel through Times Square’s history and explore New York’s neighborhoods. For this film, you’ll be seated in a New York subway car. Expect to be surprised.
- Next, explore seven themed galleries at your own pace. You’ll discover New York in the time of Native Americans, then jump forward through history. The museum is organized by theme. The finance section tells the story of how the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street was created and grew. The skyline section explores the history of skyscrapers and the inner workings of elevators. Broadway shows, fashion, music, media, and cinema are also featured, with original artifacts and thoughtful displays. You’ll even see a drum kit that belonged to the Beatles during their New York tour. A complete picture of what makes New York special.
- The third and final section invites you aboard a spectacular flying cinema. This 180-degree projection system is suspended 9 meters (30 feet) above the ground, creating the sensation of flying over New York. You’ll soar over the Statue of Liberty, the Financial District, the Empire State Building, and travel up Manhattan to Central Park and the Bronx. This is clearly the highlight of the visit. Tip: take time to explore the other galleries, as you cannot go back once this attraction ends.
- Plan for one to one and a half hours to experience the entire attraction.

There’s a historical film, an exhibition covering various themes like cinema, fashion, and music, and an amazing 4D film. It’s family-friendly. We loved the 4D experience—a wonderful journey over the city.”
