What to Know About Museum of Ice Cream NYC
- Museum of Ice Cream NYC stands apart from other museums in New York. There are no paintings or sculptures here. This playful museum is entirely dedicated to ice cream.
- The museum was founded in 2016 by Maryellis Bunn and Manish Vora. It originally opened in the Meatpacking neighborhood in lower Manhattan. A few years later, it relocated and reopened in December 2019 in SoHo, also in Manhattan.
- The museum’s concept? “Bring the universal power of ice cream to life by creating experiences that spark imagination and help you rediscover the child within,” the museum explains. The goal is straightforward: give you a relaxing, indulgent good time.
- Following its success, the museum has expanded to other cities across the United States and Asia. You’ll find similar museums in Austin, Chicago, Singapore, and Shanghai. Ice cream’s reach keeps growing.
What to See at Museum of Ice Cream NYC
- Museum of Ice Cream traces the history of ice cream from its origins around the 7th century during China’s Tang Dynasty. You’ll then follow its arrival in America in 1744. After this quick introduction, you’ll dive into the main attraction: the museum is designed to be playful and perfect for photos.
- The museum’s three floors feature surprising interactive installations all about ice cream. You can board a candy-pink New York subway car, sit inside a giant ice cream cone, or test your aim by tossing ice cream balls into cones.
- Another wild experience: dive into a pool filled with giant sprinkles and cherries. Don’t miss the slide or the photo opportunity at the base of a giant ice cream ball.
