What to know about SEA LIFE aquarium in New York

  • SEA LIFE aquarium opened in May 2021 inside American Dream, a shopping mall in New Jersey. The mall is about 30 minutes from New York by car or bus.
  • SEA LIFE was originally founded in 1979 in Scotland, then expanded to 17 countries worldwide. In 2013, the aquariums created their own foundation, SEA LIFE Trust, which works to preserve marine species and runs conservation projects across five continents.
  • SEA LIFE at American Dream is home to more than 3,000 animals, from sharks and sea turtles to rays, seahorses, and jellyfish. You’ll also spot clownfish straight out of a Walt Disney film.
  • The aquarium’s design is impressive and highly creative. The exhibition begins with a ride aboard a New York subway car whose windows are actually aquariums. You can then stroll down Sharks Fish Avenue, the underwater version of Fifth Avenue. Shop windows here too have been replaced by aquariums. Further on, a special pool lets younger visitors gently touch starfish and sea anemones.
  • Walk through the impressive underwater tunnel that runs through the main tank. Sharks, rays, and other creatures swim past a New York-themed setting. Several replicas of iconic landmarks sit on the tank floor, including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and Times Square.
