Paulus Hook: The Best View of New York’s Skyline

Why Visit Paulus Hook?

  • Want to see the Manhattan skyline as it appears in the movies? Head to New Jersey. From across the Hudson River, you’ll get an unobstructed view of New York.
  • There’s one spot in particular that I love and recommend: Paulus Hook. This small peninsula sits on the Hudson River, directly across from the Financial District, with the World Financial Center and One World Trade Center dominating the skyline. Paulus Hook also opens onto New York Harbor, with Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on the horizon. An extraordinary viewpoint.
  • It’s also the most accessible New Jersey vantage point from Manhattan. Simply take the PATH train at the World Trade Center station, below the Oculus, and get off at the first stop. It couldn’t be easier.

When to Visit Paulus Hook

  • Visit Paulus Hook in late afternoon, when the sun illuminates the Manhattan skyline perfectly. You can then walk along the Hudson and enjoy a long stroll. Or simply find a bench and take in the view.
  • In the evening, the area comes alive, sometimes with live music groups performing in summer. Wait for sunset, when the glass facades turn a warm orange. An unforgettable moment.
  • To return to Manhattan, consider taking the NY Waterway ferry. It costs a bit more than the PATH, but this short cruise offers spectacular views.
