The story of the Alice statue in Central Park

  • The statue was created by Spanish-born sculptor José de Creeft and installed in Central Park in 1959. It was a gift to New York City from American publisher and philanthropist George Delacorte, who passed away in 1991.
  • The statue is actually a tribute to his wife, who loved reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to their six children. Delacorte, who lived nearby, enjoyed watching children play on the statue. So don’t hesitate to let your kids climb on it!
