5 unusual ways to get around New York
In New York, you'll naturally take the subway and bus. But there are other, more unexpected ways to explore the city!

Like all major cities worldwide, New York has a subway and bus network. But there are other, more unusual ways to explore the city:
1/ The Roosevelt Island Tramway
- New York has its own aerial tramway. The Roosevelt Island Tramway connects Midtown to Roosevelt Island, in the middle of the East River. You’ll enjoy unique views of eastern Manhattan and the Queensboro Bridge, which links Manhattan to Queens.
- To ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway, head to the corner of 59th Street and 2nd Avenue. The OMNY transit card works for this trip.

2/ Ferries
- In New York’s streets, you’ll see waves of yellow taxis. On the waters of New York Harbor, you’ll see waves of ferries. NYC Ferry boats loop along the East River, letting you hop on and off as you please. Explore a neighborhood, then catch the next ferry to continue your journey.
3/ Jet Ski
- For something more adventurous, try exploring New York by jet ski. You’ll depart from New Jersey and ride down the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty. Cut the engine and take in the statue from a completely fresh perspective. Then head toward Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s thrilling.

4/ Stretch Limousine
- In New York, everything is bigger—even the cars. You’ll spot long stretch limousines cruising the streets of the Big Apple. I’ve had the chance to ride in one, and it’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll feel like a movie star. With a driver, mini-bar, and plush seating, it’s perfect for a group. The price covers all passengers, up to 9 people.

5/ Pedicab
- Like in Asia, New York has pedicabs—three-wheeled bikes with a cyclist up front and seating for 2 to 3 passengers in the back. Pedicabs are increasingly popular in Central Park, gradually replacing horse-drawn carriages in Central Park.
