Climb the Red Steps of Times Square in New York
The iconic red staircase on Times Square offers you a unique vantage point over New York's most famous intersection. Don't miss it!

Where Are the Red Steps of Times Square?
- New York has its own famous red steps, just like Cannes has its red carpet. You’ll find them at the heart of Times Square. The grand staircase and red steps sit on Duffy Square, between Broadway and 7th Avenue, at 47th Street. You’re now in the heart of the Theater District!
- Access is free, open 24/7. Climb to the top of the stairs—the view over Times Square is spectacular, and you’ll feel right in the middle of the action. From here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the giant screens and the electric energy of Times Square.
- This is an ideal spot to experience the Midnight Moment. Every night at midnight, the screens display the same image or sequence in unison—a surprise created by an artist.
What to Know About Times Square’s Red Steps
- The red staircase was built in 2008 by the TKTS ticket booth. The staircase has 27 glass steps and reaches nearly 5 m (16 ft) high. That’s plenty of height to get a clear, unobstructed view over Times Square.
- You’ll be surrounded by advertising screens on all sides. One of New York’s most iconic spots. Visit early in your trip to feel the full energy of the city.
- Facing the staircase stands a statue of Reverend Francis P. Duffy, set against a Celtic cross. He was a priest at a church near Times Square and served as chaplain of the 69th Infantry Regiment of New York during World War I.
- The staircase overlooks the world’s most famous intersection. And the world comes here.
