A ticket for the Empire State Building day and night

Make the most of the view from the Empire State Building with this special ticket that lets you visit twice in one day—once by day and once by night—at a reduced price.

A ticket for the Empire State Building day and night

At 320 m (1,050 ft) high, the Empire State Building observatory offers one of the best views in New York. This 360-degree panorama lets you see all of Manhattan at once, from the Statue of Liberty to the towers of the Financial District, Midtown, and the Chrysler Building.

One question remains: what time should you go to make the most of the view? I cover this in detail with photos in this article, but here’s the summary:

  • In the morning, the Financial District gets direct sunlight, but northern Manhattan is backlit.
  • In the afternoon, it’s the opposite: Midtown is perfectly lit, but you’ll face the sun looking south.
  • Evening is equally magical, with building lights and car headlights tracing the avenues.

Two visits for one discounted price

To enjoy the full experience, there’s a solution: the day-night ticket. As the name suggests, this special ticket lets you visit the top of the Empire State Building twice in one day—once during the day and once at night—for less than buying two regular tickets.

The daytime ticket gets you in between 8 am and 8:59 pm, and the nighttime ticket lets you enter from 9 pm onward. This double ticket is especially worthwhile in summer, when days are long: you can see the view in the morning, return at 9 pm to catch the sunset, then stay for the night view. Three views in one ticket.
