What is Fleet Week?

  • Fleet Week is an annual event in New York organized by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Coast Guard. The military opens its doors to the public, showcasing equipment and operations. As organizers explain, “It’s an unparalleled opportunity for the public to meet sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel, and to see the latest capabilities of the Navy.”
  • The first Fleet Week took place in 1935 in San Diego, one of the largest military ports in the United States. The event became a regular occurrence starting in 1984. New York’s first Fleet Week was held in 1988.

When is Fleet Week 2026 in New York?

  • Fleet Week 2026 runs from July 3–8 in New York. This year’s dates are shifted to align with Independence Day on July 4, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
  • Organizers note that more than 3,000 sailors will participate in Fleet Week New York 2026.

What to see during Fleet Week in New York?

  • The main draw is boarding the naval vessels on display. It’s a rare chance to explore several U.S. Navy ships from the inside. From July 3–8, 2026, ships will be docked along the Hudson River at 42nd Street. You can board at Pier 86 from 10 am to 3 pm and at Pier 88 from 8 am to 5 pm. Tip: arrive early to avoid long lines.
  • The U.S. Navy Band performs concerts throughout the city. The Navy Band plays in Central Park at the Naumburg Bandshell (located at 72nd Street). The band also performs in Washington Square Park from noon to 1 pm.
  • Don’t miss the naval parade in New York Harbor and the ships’ departure on July 8, 2026.
  • You’ll spot sailors throughout Manhattan, especially in Times Square. Feel free to ask for a photo or strike up a conversation—it’s not every day you get to meet a sailor. You might even see Navy divers training in a giant aquarium set up in Times Square. Fleet Week brings a touch of spectacle to the city!
