What You Need to Know About Visiting the Met Before Opening

  • One of the world’s largest museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is New York’s equivalent to the Louvre in Paris. Nearly 7 million visitors come each year to see Roman, Greek, and Egyptian antiquities, as well as Flemish, French, and American paintings.
  • This guided tour lets you explore the Met with exclusive access before it opens to the public. Meet at 8:30 am at the entrance for 1.5 hours of viewing. A museum staff guide leads the tour.
  • Groups are limited to 25 people maximum, so you’ll enjoy an intimate experience. You can take photos while listening to your guide’s commentary.
  • After the tour, you’re welcome to stay and explore on your own. Your admission also includes same-day access to the Met Breuer and the Cloisters, two other museums operated by the Metropolitan Museum.
  • You’ll have time to shop at the museum store. Your tour includes a $10 discount on purchases of $50 or more at the Met Store.
