What is the CBP Global Entry program?
When filling out your ESTA, you'll encounter this question: "Are you a member of the CBP Global Entry program?" Here's what it is and how to answer based on your situation.

The CBP Global Entry question on the ESTA
- If you’re a European citizen, you must complete an electronic visa application form at least 48 hours before your flight to the United States. The ESTA form is filled out on the official website and costs $40 as of September 30, 2025.
- You’ll answer a series of questions, including an unusual one near the beginning of the form: “Are you a member of the CBP Global Entry program?” Here’s what you need to know.
What is the CBP Global Entry program?
- This program was created by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to streamline entry to the United States for travelers deemed to pose no security risk.
- Members can enter the United States using CBP Global Entry kiosks—automated stations that speed up processing and let you bypass the immigration officer line.
How do you become a Global Entry member?
There are two main requirements to join Global Entry:
- First, you must apply and be approved by U.S. authorities. Applications are submitted online on the official program website.
- Second, you must be a citizen of a country that has signed a partnership agreement with U.S. authorities. Eligibility depends on your nationality. Here are the participating countries:
- Argentina.
- Australia.
- Canada.
- Colombia.
- Germany.
- India.
- Mexico.
- New Zealand.
- Panama.
- Singapore.
- South Korea.
- Switzerland.
- Taiwan.
- United Kingdom.
What should you answer on the ESTA?
- If you’re a citizen of France, Belgium, or Luxembourg, you cannot participate in Global Entry, so the answer to the ESTA question is simply no.
- If you’re a Swiss or Canadian citizen, you’re eligible for the program. If you’ve already been approved, answer yes and provide your case number in the next field.
