How to follow marathon participants
Race day for the New York Marathon is here! If you know one of the roughly 50,000 runners starting this year, you can track them throughout the course. Here are three ways to do it:
1/ Download the marathon app
- To track runners in real time, download the New York Marathon app on your phone or tablet. Depending on your device, go to the Apple Store or Google Play. The app is free.
- Go to the “Tracking” section and enter the runner’s last name or bib number. The app will show you their time at each checkpoint (every 5 km), their current pace, and a prediction of their finish time.
- If you’re in New York, the app is essential for navigating the course and spotting the runners you’re supporting. One tip: bring a large, eye-catching sign and make plenty of noise—about a million spectators line the course!
