  • New York Stewart International Airport (SWF) is located in New Windsor, north of New York City in the Hudson Valley. The airport sits about 100 km (62 mi) from Manhattan.
  • Built in the 1930s, the airport originally hosted a U.S. Air Force base through the 1970s. Over time, regional commercial traffic grew steadily.
  • Stewart became a hub for transatlantic budget carriers, including Icelandic airline Play, which operated flights between Europe and New York via Reykjavik until September 2025. On September 29, 2025, Play announced it had filed for bankruptcy.

Getting from Stewart Airport to New York

By Bus

  • The bus is the most convenient and fastest way to reach New York from Stewart Airport. At the arrivals terminal exit, look for Stewart Airport Express buses operated by Coach USA. To save time, buy your tickets in advance on the company website.
  • The bus drops you near Times Square, on 41st Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. The journey takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • For your return trip, use the same bus company. Buses depart from the same location on 41st Street.

By Train

  • Train travel is the most affordable option from Stewart Airport to central New York. Take the Newburgh-Beacon shuttle to Beacon Station, then board the Metro-North Hudson Line, which goes directly to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The shuttle to Beacon Station runs weekdays only, from 9:13 am to 8:25 pm. No service outside these hours. The shuttle fare is $1, paid in cash to the driver. Once at Beacon Station, you can purchase train tickets.
  • Allow 40 minutes for the shuttle from Stewart Airport to Beacon Station, then 1 hour 30 minutes by train from Beacon Station to Grand Central Terminal.
