  • Riverside Park opened in 1880 along the Hudson River. Its designer was the same landscape architect who created Central Park: Frederick Law Olmsted. The renowned designer spent 2 years planning the park’s layout.
  • The park received official designation as a City Landmark in 1980.
  • Riverside Park is a hub of activity, filled with joggers and cyclists. You’ll also find a skate park, plus fields for soccer, tennis and basketball. A bike path runs the entire length of the park from north to south, making it perfect for getting some exercise.

What to See in Riverside Park

  • At 79th Street, look for the Boat Basin, Riverside Park’s marina. It was completely renovated and redesigned in 1994. The waterfront has a distinctly New York feel.
  • Riverside Park has two important memorials worth visiting. At 98th Street stands the Soldiers and Sailors monument, dedicated to the Civil War in 1902. At 100th Street, you’ll find the Fireman Memorial, honoring New York’s firefighters.
  • Another statue not to miss: a bronze monument to Joan of Arc, erected in 1915.
