Liberty Park: A Park with Views of the World Trade Center
When you visit the World Trade Center, make a detour to Liberty Park. This park, which opened in 2016, offers you breathtaking views.

What You Need to Know About Liberty Park
- Liberty Park sits on the southern edge of the World Trade Center esplanade, facing the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and the World Trade Center towers. The park opened in June 2016.
- The park was built on top of the Vehicular Security Center, the World Trade Center’s garage. It’s quite small—just 4,000 m² (43,000 sq ft).
- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey invested $50 million in building the park.
What to See in Liberty Park
- Despite its small size, Liberty Park offers stunning views of the 9/11 Memorial and the World Trade Center towers, including One World Trade Center. Visit in the afternoon to have the sun behind you for the best photos.
- Since September 2017, Liberty Park has been home to The Sphere, a sculpture that originally stood at the base of the Twin Towers. After the September 11 attacks, the massive bronze sphere was found in relatively good condition in the rubble and was temporarily placed in Battery Park before being relocated here.
- Liberty Park is adjacent to the new St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, currently under reconstruction. This Greek Orthodox church was destroyed when the towers collapsed on September 11, 2001.
- As you head toward the steps leading to Greenwich Street, you’ll find a plaque honoring Anne Frank. The tree planted here in June 2017 is a clone of the chestnut tree that stood outside her family’s hiding place in Amsterdam, where she and her family hid from June 1942 to August 1944 before being arrested, deported, and killed.
