Visit to the Federal Reserve Bank in New York
One of New York's most unusual tours: a visit to the U.S. Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve prints American coins and bills and safeguards substantial quantities of gold in its vaults.

What You Need to Know About the Federal Reserve Bank
- The tour teaches you how the Federal Reserve Bank works as America’s central bank. You’ll learn about its role in the economy and its influence on financial markets. You’ve probably heard news reports about “Fed interventions” — the Federal Reserve’s decisions on interest rates, which affect lending between the central bank and commercial banks worldwide.
- The tour begins with a display of historic coins and bills. You’ll discover how many bills enter circulation each year, how long a dollar lasts, and what happens to worn-out currency. A film then explains the Federal Reserve’s history and mission.
- Next, impressive elevators take you down to a basement level. You’ll pass through corridors and reinforced doors before reaching thick metal bars. Beyond them: a mountain of gold bars. Stunning.
