The Story of SIX

• The musical SIX is loosely inspired by the life of Henry VIII, King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. A king best remembered in History for his 6 marriages and his first sensational divorce. When Pope Clement VII refused to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII simply decided to break with the Vatican and establish his own church, the Church of England.
• SIX revisits this famous episode of British celebrity history from the perspective of his 6 wives, transposing it to modern times. Henry VIII’s 6 women take the stage in a thunderous pop concert! Each tells her own story, her joys and sorrows, through song.
• This show was first presented in Edinburgh in 2017 by a cast of Cambridge University students, with music written by British composers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. The success was so great that the musical moved to London before reaching Broadway in 2021. Since then, SIX has remained on stage and continues to attract audiences from around the world!
• The New York production has won several prestigious awards and honors. SIX received 2 Tony Awards in 2022, for Best Original Music and Best Costumes. In addition, it won 4 Drama Desk Awards for music, lyrics, costumes, and ensemble performance. SIX was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 2023 in the category of Best Musical Theater Album.
