The Story of Hamilton

Hamilton tells the story of America’s founding through the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of the nation’s most influential Founding Fathers. At 19, Hamilton had just enrolled at King’s College in New York—now Columbia University—when the American Revolution erupted. His battlefield courage caught the attention of George Washington, who made him his aide-de-camp.
Created in 2004, this musical is far from a traditional biography. It blends historical facts with the energy of modern hip-hop and R&B, creating a unique theatrical experience. The production also makes a bold artistic choice: several historical white figures are played by Black actors on stage.
The show’s success speaks for itself. Hamilton holds the record for the most Tony Award nominations in a single year. The musical earned 16 nominations and won 11 Tony Awards in 2016.
