The Story of Galileo
- Galileo is an original and ambitious Broadway musical. The show traces the life of Galileo Galilei, the Italian scientist who proved that the Earth revolves around the sun, not the other way around as people once believed. Born in Pisa in 1564, Galileo published his first major work in 1623, a treatise on comets. At that time, scientific knowledge was limited and the Church imposed its own interpretation over scientific discovery.
- Galileo conducted experiments across many fields and is considered one of the fathers of physics. His insights and discoveries eventually provoked the Church’s relentless anger, which condemned him as a heretic. “And yet it moves!” he would later be forced to say.
- The show is directed by Michael Mayer, a Tony Award-winning director and one of Broadway’s leading creative voices. The choreography is by David Neumann, who also worked on Hadestown.
